Pune: If you have any complaints against mplaints by consumers across the city, the Grahak Panchayat along with Ignited Minds group has kicked off a campaign named as ‘Petrol-Diesel Consumer Awareness Programme’ and are distributing pamphlets among citizens. Residents can write to firstname.lastname@example.org
The campaign has been kicked off after an independent documentary film-maker, Anagha Ghaisas, lodged a police complaint against staffers of a Kothrud–based petrol pump, alleging fraud while refilling the fuel tank of her vehicle and misbehaving with her when she tried to complain. Following the incident, the petrol pump has been closed down.
Meanwhile, taking cognisance of such complaints by citizens, the Grahak Panchayat announced a helpline for consumers to complain through email. The helpline is already flooded with complaints and within a day, it received nearly 50 complaints.
Suryakant Pathak of Akhil Bhartiya Grahak Panchayat said, “We are receiving complaints from all parts of the city, including Pimpri-Chinchwad. Though we have nearly 50 complaints, I still feel that the number of complaints should increase as there are lakhs of vehicle users in the city.”
Most of the complaints that the helpline received are mostly regarding petrol pump staffers cheating and filling less or adulterated petrol and behaving arrogantly.
In order to take these complaints to appropriate authorities, Pathak said, “We are planning to hold a seminar on July 13, where we will be calling all the consumers and petrol pump association members. We are going to take up the issue up to the petroleum ministry.”
